About
Cardoza Garden Farms specializes in pollinator-friendly flower seeds inspired by California wildflowers. The mission is to help gardeners support bees, butterflies, and birds while creating beautiful, colorful landscapes.
Flowers Offered
California Poppy – Bright golden blooms that attract native bees and add vibrant color to gardens.
Fiddleneck – An excellent early-season nectar source for bees and beneficial insects. This is a highly popular, easy to grow pollinator flower that acts as green manure for your garden after mulching. Cautionary Note: Not recomended for horse, cattle, sheep, goat, chicken, dog, or house cat grazed gardens or pasture due to high alkaloid content, but excellent choice for wild bird, bee, and butterfly gardens.
Sunflower - Black Oil and California Wild Sunflower – Provides food for pollinators and goldfinches while adding height and beauty.
California Gold Fields (Available beginning in 2027) – Goldfields attract native bees, honey bees, butterflies, beetles, and hoverflies.
Why Pollinators Matter
Pollinators are essential to healthy ecosystems and food production. Planting pollinator-friendly flowers helps:

- Beautify landscapes naturally
Meet Your Pollinator Flower Seed Farmer
Cardoza Garden Farms is operated by James Cardoza with a focus on cultivating, selecting, multiplying, and selling flower seeds that benefit pollinators and perform well in home gardens, as well as buying and reselling certain seeds, where applicable. The farms, which are primarily located in the Carrizo Plain region of San Luis Obispo County, California concurrently provide habitat for a wide variety of insects, arachnids, birds - including both goldfinches and raptors, and a variety of other wildlife. James Cardoza comes from a family that has been commercially farming in Central California for right around 100 years. He grew up working on his family's dairy and farming operations, which included cotton, corn, wheat, alfalfa, and sorghum, and also spent several years working in commercial agricultural financing, working with dairies, hay growers and exporters, and food processing companies throughout the Western United States. In addition to operating Cardoza Garden Farms, James Cardoza manages his family's manufacturing company and is currently working on decontamination of a former petroleum products distribution site. Although he is no longer involved in his family's primary commercial farming operation in Tulare County, California, which now consists of corn, wheat, and persimmons, this operation is run by his younger brother. By operating Cardoza Garden Farms, James Cardoza is able to continue his family's multi-generational agricultural heritage and also conduct informal research on drought-tolerant plant species, biodiverse agricultural practices, and soil health. For fun, James Cardoza enjoys collecting and spreading wildflower seed, capturing aerial drone photography, propagating prickly pear cactus, and hiking and trail running in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The goal is to offer flower seeds that connect gardeners with the rhythms of nature and the importance of pollinators in healthy ecosystems. By incorporating pollinator friendly flowers into their home gardens, gardners can play an essential role in supporting bees, butterflies and birds, as well as other pollinator species.
